Shavuot by Daniel BradLee 5.24.2026 Intro The mountain shook, the fire came down, The smoke rose up at the shofar's sound Grew strong beyond the people's power to bear— The voice of God split through the air. He spoke His Word for all to hear, The people trembled, struck with fear. At Sinai's base, the nation stood, As Yahweh declared what's right and good. V1 Fifty days from Egypt's chains they came, Through the sea, through the desert flame. From physical bondage to liberation's cry, To spiritual revelation from the Most High! The mountain burned, the heavens roared, And down came the commandments of the LORD. Ch1 Shavuot! Shavuot! It’s that time of the year, Chag HaKatzir—the harvest is here! Yom HaBikkurim—the firstfruits we bring, Chag Shavuot—feast of weeks to our God we sing! Rejoice before Him, son and daughter, The stranger, the widow—come with us before the Father! Give from your hand as He's blessed your store, A freewill offering—praise Him evermore! V2 Count seven Sabbaths, let them pass, The fiftieth day has come at last. Two loaves of bread with leaven baked, From fine flour of the harvest reaped and raked. Waved high before the Lord, Holy firstfruits, by His Word. No servile work this sacred day— A statute forever, the Scriptures say. In the days before when gathering the harvest mound, Don't reap the fields all down to the ground, Leave the edges for the poor and foreigner to be found. V3 Now in the fields of Bethlehem's wheat, A Moabite woman with humble feet Gleaned what was left for the poor in the land— Ruth found favor by God's own hand. She didn't complain through the hardest of days, But marveled at kindness and gave God the praise. "Why have I found grace in your sight?" she said, And Boaz made sure that this woman was fed. V4 Boaz saw a woman who feared the LORD, Who left her gods and crossed the Jordan ford. He said, "May YHWH repay what you have done, Beneath His wings, your refuge is the Holy One." Boaz went beyond the letter of the law, Provided, protected, and honored what he saw. A kinsman redeemer who paid the price— A shadow of Yeshua's sacrifice! Tag A foreign woman, with a generation's stain, Redeemed by grace and in the Messianic chain! From Ruth and Boaz came King David's throne, And from that line—Messiah, God's own. Ch2 Shavuot! Shavuot! It's that time in summer! Chag HaKatzir—harvest for the farmer! Yom HaBikkurim—the firstfruits we bring, Chag Shavuot—feast of weeks to our God we sing! Two loaves with leaven waved on high, Accepted as firstfruits before the Most High! V5 Two loaves of bread held high— What do they mean, what is the why? Perhaps reminding us of God's double portion blessing of the land, Or the two stone tablets carved by God's own hand. Or maybe this: two peoples across time Both full of leaven, yet grafted to the vine, Waved before God as firstfruits all by design. Br First on stone, then on the heart, A masterpiece of sacred art. A land of milk and honey He had promised, And on this feast, we taste it and stand astonished. His Word is sweeter than honeycomb— And after two thousand years, we are home. V6 Fifteen hundred years from Sinai's flame, The Risen King ascended whence He came. Ten days later, Shavuot again, The faithful gathered—humble, waiting men. Then a sound like rushing mighty wind Filled the house where the disciples had been. Tongues of fire on every head appeared, They spoke in languages they'd never neared! Israelites heard God's praises in their mother tongue, The wonderful works of God were sung! V7 Peter stood and lifted up his voice: "This is what Joel said—now rejoice! God pours His Spirit out on all flesh— Sons and daughters prophesy afresh!" He preached that Jesus, crucified and raised, Was Lord and Christ saying let God be praised! Their hearts were pricked—"What shall we do?" "Repent! Be baptized! God's promise is for you!" Tag2 Three thousand souls were saved that day, From the crooked generation, they turned away. Remember—at Sinai, the calf they made, And three thousand died when from God they strayed. But now, three thousand live—the Spirit's harvest made! V8 Now hear this truth that's often missed: God's laws before Mount Sinai did exist. Noah and his family knew which animals were clean, Abraham tithed—the pattern's clearly seen. God rested on the Sabbath and made it blessed, Abel's animal offerings—he gave his best. Genesis 26:5 says it plain: Abraham kept God's laws—every statute under his domain. The Word at Sinai wasn't something new— It was written down for me and you. Final Ch Shavuot! Shavuot! It's that time in summer! Chag HaKatzir—harvest for the farmer! Yom HaBikkurim—the firstfruits we bring, Chag Shavuot—feast of weeks to our God we sing! From Sinai's fire to the Spirit's flame, From stone to heart—His Word's the same! Give freely now as He has blessed, Include the stranger, the one distressed! Two loaves held high, the wheat fields gold, A story of redemption ages old! Rejoice! Rejoice! As we are told— The feasts of Yahweh will never grow old!
